What the Mayoralty does
The Mayoralty of Baghdad (Amanat Baghdad) is the capital's municipal government. The Mayoralty of Baghdad Law, No. 16 of 1995, sets its duties inside the city's planned boundary:
- water and sewerage
- roads and bridges inside the city
- street cleaning and waste collection
- parks and tree planting
- building permits and land use
- municipal fees
It works through 15 municipalities and through central departments, each responsible for one service. It also runs the Baghdadi Museum, the radio station Sawt Baghdad and the Sawt Baghdad newspaper.
